Foodies: use Opentable to eat out and earn free dinners!

If you are a foodie who likes eating out at nicer restaurants, check out Opentable.com. Its a free reservations system, and when you earn 2000 points, they'll give you a $20 gift certificate to use at ANY of the Opentable restaurants. Save up your points, and you can redeem $100's of dollars for a completely free dinner.

Many fine restaurants like the Patina Group offers online reservations on their web site using Opentable as their provider. However, if you book on the restaurant's site, you don't get points to earn free food! Instead, book online directly at Opentable and earn between 100 to 1000 points towards free food!

About 90% of the restaurants will award you 100 points to dine with them. Occassionally some will offer 1000 points to lure you during their slow time, such as midweek. Some bistros located near the Music Center/ Opera/ Theatre will offer 1000 points to dine between 7:00-9:00 while the neighboring theatres have their shows (Kendall Brasserie near the Ahmanson, for example, does this). If you visit 2, 1000 point resturants, you've accumulated points for a $20 gift certificate!

Here's a breakdown on the Opentable points:

My sister uses this site all the time, and get reservations at so-called hard to get into restaurants. This site even has a mobile app, so if you're thinking of a last minute place to eat, you can quickly book a restaurant while on the go.

Warning on booking a table: If you fail to check in, and are reported as a "no show", Opentable will give you 3 chances. On the last failed no show, you will lose your points and status with them. However, if you have a mobile app, you can cancel the reservations minutes before your appointment, so no harm-no foul.

Click here for information about the program.

Opentable is available in the United States, Canada, and Great Britain. They are now extending their list globally, but for now you can redeem your checks for the US, Canada and GB only.
