The Scoop on Cookies, a build-your-own ice cream sandwich shop, will hold a grand opening celebration Memorial Day weekend in downtown Huntington Beach.
The new ice cream shop, on Main Street between Walnut and 3rd, features ice cream sandwiches for $2.50 each, as well as nostalgic candies and soda.
Beginning Saturday, the store will be open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. During the three-day grand opening event, the store will feature family-friendly activities including a cookie walk and free face painting. Also, on Saturday and Sunday, kids cones will be sold for $1 from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. On Memorial Day, kids cones will be $1 all day.
***Special treat for readers: Customers who mention they are fans of the FastFood Maven blog will receive a free cookie over the 3-day weekend.****
The lowdown: The concept is similar to that of Diddy Riese cookies in Westwood, which sells its ice cream sandwiches for $1.50 a piece. Customers can choose two cookies, about three inches in diameter, from 10 choices — from the classic chocolate chip to the wild strawberry cheesecake. Then the shop will stuff the cookie with one of 16 ice cream flavors.
“There are ice cream places everywhere. We wanted something with a twist,” said Suzanne Meriden, co-owner of The Scoop on Cookies. “It’s something simple, dessert at a reasonable price.”
